Managing Expectations
Keeping the Joy in the Journey
Rejection is a normal, constant part of the industry. If you take every “ no ” personally, your child will absorb that energy. Children pick up on parental stress, disappointment, or negativity more than we realise. The best gift you can give your child is resilience, optimism, and the reminder that this should be fun. If joy is missing, it’ s worth reassessing the balance.
Commercials Work Differently
Commercial auditions are a completely different world from film and TV. They ’ re fast, quirky, and often decided by the most random details—like a look, a smile, or even a hand movement. Don ’t overthink them, and don ’t tie your child’ s sense of worth to commercial bookings. Treat them as bonus opportunities, not benchmarks of success.
Understanding That Your Agent Cannot Make You Work
An agent’ s role is to submit your child for opportunities, advocate on their behalf, and put them in front of the right casting directors. But no agent can guarantee work—it ultimately depends on factors outside anyone ’ s control. Trust your agent to do their job, but release the expectation that they can manufacture outcomes.
