Adam Hepkin

Vocal Coach & Founder of Vocal Zone Voice Studio

Adam Hepkin is the founder of Vocal Zone Voice Studio. As a Vocal Coach, he has worked with stars of the West End, finalists from popular shows including The X Factor, The Voice, Britain's Got Talent, and Starstruck, as well as recording artists including Andy Wickett of Duran Duran. His coaching extends to TV and Film, having worked with actors from Game of Thrones, Casualty, House of the Dragon, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Leatherface. Adam's clients have also been afforded opportunities to work with top producers and perform at televised and red carpet events. His students have appeared as leading roles in productions including Billy Elliot (New UK Production), Les Miserables (UK Tour), Annie (UK Tour), Kinky Boots (UK Tour), and The Sound of Music (New UK Production). Furthermore, Adam has guided numerous aspiring students in securing placements at renowned drama and music schools, setting them on the path to success. His studio work encompasses technique development, audition preparation, repertoire selection, stylistic coaching and career mentoring.

Adam trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During his training, he not only showcased his talents as an actor but also explored his directing abilities, receiving praise for his portrayal of Brian in Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens and his captivating performance as Darryl Van Horne in The Witches of Eastwick, described as "superbly smarmy, groin-orientated, and creepy." His formal training in performance and direction is a foundational element of the practical, musician-centred approach he brings to vocal coaching.

He became the youngest recipient of the International Award for 'Best Male Gilbert and Sullivan Performer' in 2004, impressing audiences with his portrayal of John Wellington Wells in The Sorcerer. His talent and versatility were further showcased in Bill Kenwright's No.1 UK and International Tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, where he played the role of Issachar and understudied the pivotal role of the Narrator. Adam made history as the first black male actor to portray the Narrator and also served as the production's dance captain. His involvement with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat extended beyond the stage, as he returned to the production in 2011 and provided vocal coaching for the Joseph choir during the show's tour to Hastings in 2012. These experiences exemplify how his performer’s technique and rehearsal-room leadership translate directly into effective vocal coaching for both soloists and ensembles.

Adam's theatrical journey has taken him to the West End and UK Tours, including appearances in the parody show Rip 'em Off. He has also taken on notable roles such as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, The King of Siam at London's Broadway Theatre, Jack Point in The Yeomen of the Guard, Ko-Ko in The Mikado, Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors and Man 1 in the South East Professional Premiere of Songs for a New World. Such varied roles across styles and vocal demands inform his specialist coaching in musical theatre repertoire, character-driven singing, breath management, vocal stamina and stylistic interpretation.

In addition to his stage work, Adam has made appearances on television, including Four Fathers (ITV), Wild Horses (Channel 4), and a BBC animation titled The Immortal Henri Blutoe alongside Paul McGann. His screen experience underpins his coaching for television and film performers, addressing microphone technique, subtlety of delivery, and acting-through-song for camera.

Adam's productions have consistently garnered critical acclaim, with reviewers hailing them as "outstanding," "visionary," "amazing," and "breathtaking." His directorial prowess has been recognised in productions such as Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Sweeney Todd, Elegies for Angels Punks and Raging Queens, Oklahoma!, Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Children of Eden. The Magic of the Musicals, a UK Tour that he produced and directed, featuring renowned artists including Aled Jones and Ruthie Henshall, was deemed "the musical event of the year" and received numerous five-star reviews. These directing and producing roles have given Adam extensive experience leading large vocal rehearsals, shaping ensemble sound, producing production-ready voices and programming repertoire, skills he applies to coaching and vocal direction.

Adam's contributions to the performing arts extend beyond his own performances and coaching. He has made a significant impact as an artistic director and consultant in educational institutions across the country. His expertise has contributed to the development and standardisation of performing arts programs in schools, colleges, and universities, leaving a lasting legacy in the education sector.

Because Adam has worked at the highest professional levels as a performer, director and producer, and continues to combine those roles in practical coaching, rehearsal direction and curriculum development, his unique, integrated perspective on technique, performance psychology, audition strategy and production readiness is widely recognised. This rare combination of top-level performing, directing and producing experience is why he is regarded as one of the industry’s most respected vocal coaches.
