Every year, our Perform 4 Good auditions for young performers get booked up almost instantly. If you’ve never attended Young Talent Expo before, here is everything you need to know about what Perform 4 Good is and how you can best prepare!

What is Perform 4 Good?

Perform 4 Good is a dedicated audition opportunity taking place as part of the Young Talent Expo.

Young performers who secure a slot will have the opportunity to perform either a monologue or song for leading industry Agents and Casting Directors.

Our Agents and Casting Directors generously volunteer their time, with all proceeds from Perform 4 Good going towards YoungMinds. Performers get the chance to gain valuable audition experience, receive feedback from industry professionals and raise money for an important cause at the same time.

For anyone interested in acting, musical theatre or performance, it’s a fantastic opportunity to get in the room, share your talent and experience what an industry-facing audition can feel like.

How do I sign up?

Young performers can pre-register their details in advance using the Perform 4 Good registration link, and we highly recommend doing so! Once you register your interest, you will be added to our email lists so that the SECOND the booking link goes live, you’ll have access to it first!

Then, on: 30th October at 10am BST, the booking link will go live! All pre-registered young performers will be sent the link sent directly to choose an available audition slot.

We highly recommend preregistering now so that you don’t forget. In past years, time slots have sold out in as little as FIVE minutes!

Set your alarms! Perform 4 Good is one of our most popular opportunities at the Expo, and audition slots have been known to fill up within minutes. If you’re hoping to take part, make sure you’ve pre-registered and are ready to book when slots go live at 10am.

We highly recommend preregistering now so that you don’t forget. In past years, time slots have sold out in as little as FIVE minutes!

Once you have secured a slot, you will be directed to GoFundMe to make a charitable donation for YoungMinds.

There is a minimum donation of £5, set by GoFundMe, although you are very welcome to donate more if you can. Every contribution helps support an incredibly important cause.

Important booking information

Perform 4 Good is strictly limited to:

• One audition slot per performer

• One time slot

• One audition room

We want to make sure as many young performers as possible have the chance to take part.

Please do not make duplicate bookings, as these will be cancelled.

All of the rooms use the same registration form, so you only need to submit your details once. When bookings open, you will then be able to choose your preferred room based on availability.

You won’t be able to attend Perform 4 Good without a valid ticket to the expo. Make sure before the day you also already have a valid Young Talent Expo 2026 ticket to take part in Perform 4 Good.

How to Pick Your Monologue

Picking the right piece can make a huge difference to how confident you feel in the room!

Here’s our biggest pieces of advice (based on feedback from the industry professionals!)

• Pick a monologue in your age range

• Choose a monologue from a character you could actually be cast as

• It’s best if you have it memorised like the back of your hand!

• We love monologues with a clear beginning, middle, and end 

• Pick something that shows off your personality

• Keep it in the 1 minute time limit so you get more time for valuable feedback

You do not need to pick the most dramatic or complicated monologue you can find.

Often, a simple monologue performed truthfully and confidently is far more effective than something very high stakes.

Look for a piece where your character is talking to someone else and wants something. This will help the monologue feel active rather than just reciting a story.

And most importantly, choose something you enjoy performing! If you connect with the material, they will see that radiate from you!

How to Choose a Song

If you are singing, choose a 1 minute section of something that feels comfortable - something you could sing on any day, even if you’re a little nervous.

You are more than welcome to sing acapella! If you want to sing with a track, make sure you bring your own track to play from your phone. If you prefer your track on your speaker, you are more than welcome to bring your speaker too!

You do not need to choose the highest, biggest or most impressive song in your repertoire!

Instead, think about:

• What sits comfortably in your voice

• What suits your age and style

• What lets you tell a story

• What you know extremely well

The aim is to show who you are as a performer, not to prove how difficult a song you can sing.

Which Room Should I Pick?

When booking your Perform 4 Good slot, have a think about what you’d most like to get out of the experience!

Already have an Agent you’re happy with? We recommend choosing one of the Casting Director rooms to make the most of the opportunity to perform in front of Casting Directors and gain valuable experience and feedback.

If you’re currently looking for representation and would love the opportunity to introduce yourself and your work to Agents, then an Agent room may be the best fit for you.

Choose the room that makes the most sense for where you are in your journey and remember, whichever you pick, it’s a brilliant opportunity to get in the room and perform for industry professionals!

Tips for Inside the Audition Room

First things first: getting yourself into the room is already something to be proud of! Auditions can feel intimidating (yes, even for experienced actors!), but remember that the Agents and Casting Directors sitting in front of you want you to do well. Take a breath, trust the work you’ve done and enjoy your moment. You’ve got this!

Here are a few things to remember once you step inside:

Walk in with confidence.
Head up, smile, and remember: it’s awesome that you’re putting yourself out there doing something nerve-wracking for a lot of people! You don’t need to make a huge entrance or become the most confident person on the planet. Walk in, smile, say hello and be yourself.

Introduce yourself clearly.
If asked, tell the panel your name and what you’ll be performing. Keep it simple, no need for a five-minute acceptance speech just yet!

Take. Your. Time.
You don’t have to start second you reach your spot. Get settled. Take a breath. Focus. Then begin when you’re ready.

Made a mistake? Keep going!
Forgot a word? Slight stumble? Do not panic and definitely don’t apologise! The panel might not even have noticed. Recovering and carrying on confidently can actually say a lot about you as a performer.

Forget about the panel (well… sort of).
Someone writing something down? Not smiling? Looking at a piece of paper? Don’t try to decode it! You have absolutely no idea what they’re thinking, and trying to work it out will only pull you out of your performance. Stay in your world, focus on your piece and let them do their job.

Make a choice and OWN it.
Confidence doesn’t mean being the loudest or biggest performer in the room. It means committing to your choices. Trust your instincts and show them your version of the piece: that individuality is exactly what makes you interesting.

Got a redirect? That’s exciting!
If an Agent or Casting Director asks you to try the piece again in a different way, don’t assume you did something wrong. It’s an opportunity to play! Listen to what they’ve asked, give it a go and show that you can take direction and adapt.

And finally… be lovely!
You don’t need to overthink this one. Be polite, be yourself and say thank you before you leave. Professionalism and kindness go a long way in this industry.

Most importantly, try to enjoy it! You’re getting the chance to perform for working industry professionals, practise being in an audition room and share what you love doing. Whatever happens in those few minutes, you’ll walk out with another audition under your belt, and that’s a win in itself.

What should you remember most?

What we love seeing every year is that Perform 4 Good isn’t about being perfect: it’s about getting into the room, giving it a go, and coming out the other side feeling that little bit more confident.

Time and time again, we see young performers walk out feeling proud that they put themselves out there, whether they nailed every moment or learned something new along the way.

Because really, if you can walk into a room and perform in front of Agents and Casting Directors working across some of the UK’s biggest current projects, you can take on just about anything! That confidence, experience, and willingness to put yourself out there is what Perform 4 Good is all about!
